Vintage No 4
Home-grown & farm-fresh yarn!
Vintage No. 4 comprises fleeces from my own Shetland flock, blended with fine wool fleeces, warm honey tussah silk, and ramie. The addition of ramie makes this sport weight yarn breathable, and perfect for summer knits like tees and lightweight wraps. All three colors are subtly heathered, as a result of the blended natural colored fleeces. The delicate shading produces a knit fabric with colors that look as organic as they feel.
Natural Oatmeal is a blend of my 2 fawn sheep, Beatrice and Roobie, with a white Shetland fleece from Ewe-reka Farm in Maryland. The fine wool is white merino. Natural Oatmeal is a warm and comforting shade that would lend elegance to a simple design. In colorwork, it is a perfect neutral for highlighting darker colors.
Natural Ash Line Grey comes from blending my two black Shetlands, Poppy and Quin, with cream CVM fleeces from Serenity Springs Farm in Wisconsin. This is a pure mid-tone grey, with nuanced, almost imperceptible, shading.
Natural Espresso Brown comes from blending my mioget (caramel brown) Shetland, Roobie, and dark brown Phoebe, with a black Corriedale X fleece from NY. Espresso Brown is understated and complex, with gentle flecks of warm honey tussah silk.
As with all Vintage yarns, fleeces and rovings are hand-selected as the best of its kind and for the unique qualities it contributes to the final blend. I look for fibers that are are extremely soft but resistant to pilling. Minimal processing means there may be the occasional bit of vegetable matter, but it also means that the yarn retains its sheepy characteristics and feels full of life.
